This is the image for the news article titled Upcoming Budget Meetings in April/MayOn Tuesday, April 2, the Portland Board of Public Education will hold a public hearing and first reading on the proposed $117.8 million school budget for fiscal year 2020. The  Board’s meeting begins with an executive session at 6 p.m. and the public hearing will follow immediately after. The meeting will be held in the City Council Chambers at City Hall.

On Thursday, April 4, the Board’s Finance Committee and the City Council’s Finance Committee will hold a joint review of the proposed budget. That Joint Finance Committee Meeting will take place at 5:30 p.m. in room 209 of City Hall. The City Council sets the bottom line of the school budget.

On Monday, April 8, the Board is slated to vote to recommend an FY20 school budget to the City Council. That meeting will take place at 7 p.m. in room 200 (Great Space) of Casco Bay High School.

The board will present its recommended school budget to the City Council on April 22. The Council will send the budget to its Finance Committee for an April 25 review and recommendation on its bottom line. The council will hold a first reading and public hearing on the budget on May 6 and vote on it May 20. The budget will go to voters at the polls on Tuesday, June 11.
