As a result of a water main break this past weekend at the Bayside Learning Community at 28 Portland Street – which resulted in damage to the facility – students and staff at the school will be temporarily relocated to Portland High School and East End Community School, starting Wednesday, Dec. 5. The relocation is expected to be in effect for the next month or so. During that time, Facilities staff will be mitigating and repairing the damage to the site.

“These types of transitions can be difficult for staff, parents, and, most importantly, for students,” said Superintendent Xavier Botana. “I want to thank the staff at all three buildings. They are perfect examples of what it looks like to be collaborative, responsive, and student-centered members of a team. After the initial shock, they have rolled up their sleeves and taken initiative to figure out how to make this work.”

Botana also thanked the district’s Facilities, Transportation, and Food Service teams for immediately providing assistance to coordinate the response. “I am grateful to all of them,” he said.

Bayside Learning Community is a specialized educational environment dedicated to fostering each individual's success with academic, social, and emotional growth.
