Deering High School senior Gabriel “Tito” Morales, of the Portland Boxing Club, recently won the USA Boxing New England Featherweight Championship with a close, hard-fought unanimous decision win, according to the boxing club.

Morales, who is ranked sixth in the nation, will now go to the National Championships in Kansas City in early December.

He also will participate as a rising amateur star in a Portland Boxing Club event on Saturday, Nov. 12, that starts at 7:30 p.m. at the Portland Expo.

Earlier this year, Morales won the New England Golden Gloves boxing championship in the novice class.

The Portland Boxing Club’s Barry Wilson, a Lincoln Middle School seventh-grader and Morales’ half brother, recently scored a unanimous decision over a very tough and determined opponent in the USA Boxing New England tournament, according to the club. This past February, Barry Wilson became the New England Junior Champion in his 90-pound weight class.
