Portland Public Schools Interim Superintendent Jeanne Crocker will present her budget proposal for the 2016-2017 school year to the Portland Board of Public Education at a special meeting on Tuesday, March 8.

The board’s meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in room 250 of Casco Bay High School, located at 196 Allen Avenue.

Crocker was originally scheduled to present her FY17 school budget proposal at the board’s regular meeting on Tuesday, March 1. However, Portland was among the many school communities statewide that recently received the unexpected news that they would receive significant reductions in state education aid for the new fiscal year. As Maine’s largest school district, Portland is hardest hit, with a projected $2.7 million cut.

However, state lawmakers have been discussing the possibility of allocating more education funding to address such shortfalls, so Crocker has pushed back her budget presentation a week to allow for any possible new developments from Augusta.

Here is an updated timeline of the Portland Public Schools' budget process. Also, you can find the timeline by going to the Budget “quick link” on the Portland Public Schools’ website, www.portlandschools.org.
