On Sept. 14, the Deering and Portland high school field hockey teams supported the family of a Deering player whose mother has been battling breast cancer with a fundraising Play4theCure match at Deering High School. Portland won the game and the teams raised more than $2,000 for cancer research.

To learn the details of the ‘thrilling’ 4-3 match, read this story in The Forecaster.

The game was dedicated to Shelly DiBiase, the mother of Deering player Kaytlin DiBiase. Kaytlin DiBiase is a close friend of the goalie on the Portland High School field hockey team so the two programs agreed that it was only right to honor Shelly and her family by playing this rival “Shelly's Game Play4theCure” and raising cancer awareness.

The Forecaster reports there was some exciting news at the game: Shelly DiBiase is now cancer-free.

In Shelly DiBiase’s honor, the teams raised money through Play4theCure, the sports fundraising program of the National Foundation for Cancer Research. All of the proceeds go towards cancer research. For more information, visit: https://www.crowdrise.com/ShellysGamePlay4theCure
