King Middle School, a high-achieving, highly diverse Expeditionary Learning public school at the forefront of national school reform, will present its Expeditionary Learning (EL) Credentialing portfolio on Tuesday, September 8.

Expeditionary Learning is newly credentialing schools that can demonstrate meeting EL’s criteria in three core standards: mastery of skills and knowledge, character and high quality student work. King’s presentation will be at 10 a.m. in the library of the school, located at 92 Deering Avenue. The school will be presenting selections from a digital portfolio the school has been compiling over the last year that demonstrate the school's compelling evidence in meeting the standards of a Credentialed EL school.

A pioneer of Expeditionary Learning, King credits its scholastic success to its rigorous, all-inclusive learning environment and to its high expectations of every student. It was a low-performing school when it partnered with Expeditionary Learning in 1992, but has evolved to a top-performing school today.

The Portland Public Schools has three Expeditionary Learning schools: King, Casco Bay High School and Presumpscot Elementary School, providing access to the EL model at all grade levels.
