All three of the current Portland Board of Public Education members running for election won their seats again on Tuesday, Nov. 3.

Current school board Chair Sarah Thompson was returned to her at-large seat. First elected in 2006, Thompson, a nursing student placement systems administrator at Maine Medical Center, received 10,187 votes or 71 percent. Her challenger, Paul Okot, founder of the International Resource Center of Portland, won 4,234 votes or 29 percent.

Jenna Vendil, a community organizer who has been on the school board since 2009, won her District 1 seat with 1,482 votes or 59 percent. She was running against Josephine Okot, a social worker who is the chief leader of the South Sudan Acholi Community in Portland, who won 1,023 votes or 41 percent.

Holly Seeliger ran unopposed to keep her District 2 seat. She received 2,480 votes.

All Portland voting tallies were still unofficial as of late Tuesday evening, Nov. 3.
