DHS Female Athletes to Help Hall Students Be ‘Girls on the Run’
Posted on 05/19/2015

Approximately 25 Deering High School students who are members of the girls’ lacrosse and track teams will head to Hall Elementary School on Wednesday, May 20, to help the younger girl students there run their first 5K race.

The Hall School girls are running the 5K as part of the Girls on the Run (GOTR) program. GOTR is a physical activity-based youth development program for girls that teaches life skills through dynamic, interactive lessons and running games.

The DHS athletes are slated to arrive at Hall School, located at 23 Orono Road, about 2:30 p.m. Each lacrosse or track team student athlete will be paired with one or two GOTR students to participate in the warm-up and then be the younger girls’ “running buddy” for the practice 5K. Student athletes who are not running will be helping at crossing areas, water stations, and mile markers.

Parents and volunteers will also assist in the effort.
