Let’s Talk Portland! – the simple way for parents, teachers, staff, students and community members to submit feedback to the Portland Public Schools 24 hours a day, seven days a week – has been enhanced to allow the public and the district to interact more seamlessly.

The new system gives the district the opportunity to better track concerns and issues, letting staff share information and communication to more effectively support parent and community questions or concerns. It provides the Portland Public Schools with the opportunity to better quantify and analyze feedback received to inform decision-making or identify ongoing concerns.

Also among features of the newly relaunched Let’s Talk Portland is that the public can rate how questions, concerns, and comments are handled. Once their submission comes to a conclusion, submitters have the opportunity to provide rated feedback to the district on a scale of 1 to 10.

“We believe that everyone in the community should have the opportunity to be heard. Let’s Talk Portland! reflects that belief,” said Portland Superintendent Emmanuel Caulk. “This is an easy, convenient way for community members to let us know what’s on their minds. All messages will receive prompt attention and appropriate follow-up.”

Let’s Talk Portland! can be accessed on the district’s website through the “Contact Us” section via any device. You can also click here.

Parents and other community members can submit questions, concerns, and comments anonymously if they wish, or submit phone and/or email contact information to receive responses from staff. Parents and community members can include attachments with their submissions – pictures, files, etc. – to help clarify questions or concerns. The system will be available in multiple languages.

Let’s Talk Portland! also gives people an opportunity to provide input on such issues as the school budget process, which is currently underway before the Portland Board of Public Education.

Staff will respond to submissions within two business days at most, but the goal is to provide a response on the same business day for most submissions.

The district did a mini-launch of Let’s Talk Portland! last year, centered on specific events. The system has been relaunched this year to better delineate submission areas to facilitate use of the system by the public and staff.

The submission areas are:

Academics

•           Teaching and Learning – questions or feedback about curriculum and assessment

•           Schools – questions or feedback about one of our schools

•           Co-Curriculars – questions or feedback about clubs, teams, and other activities

•           Multilingual/Multicultural – questions or feedback about interpretation, translation, world language, or other cultural concerns

•           Student Support Services – questions or feedback about special education, gifted and talented, and other student supports

•           What is my neighborhood school? – enter address and grade student is entering to receive a message identifying neighborhood school

Operations

•           Transportation – questions or feedback about busing

•           Food Services – questions or feedback about the school meals programs

•           Facilities – questions or feedback about school buildings and spaces

Superintendent’s Office

•           Communications – questions or feedback about school and district communication with families and the community

•           Technology – questions or feedback about technology services

•           Budget – questions or feedback about current or upcoming budget priorities

The district also has an ongoing Web video series hosted by Superintendent Caulk, also titled “Let’s Talk Portland!” In the show, Caulk interviews guests about timely topics related to the Portland Public Schools.
