Four students who attend the Portland Arts and Technology High School will be among the young people participating in Perform for a Cure, a variety show to benefit The American Cancer Society.

The event is on on Saturday, April 4, at the South Portland High School Auditorium. It starts at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 for students and senior citizens and $12 for adults.

Rachel Friedman, a PATHS senior whose sending school is Deering High School, is the founder of Perform for a Cure, a local nonprofit. She came up with the idea when she was 9 years old, when her mom was battling cancer for the third time.

Perform for a Cure began as a small variety show to raise money for the American Cancer Society. Today, according to the group’s website, it is a fast-growing organization that has inspired more than 1,000 young people to make a positive, lasting impact in their communities by using their passion and talent in the arts. It has raised more than $60,000 for the American Cancer Society, the Cancer Community Center and The  Center for Grieving Children.

The PATHS students participating are: Danny Pike, whose sending school is Windham High School; Rachel Friedman, from Deering High School; Alicia Fornier, from Aucocisco School; and Nick Drapeau, from Gray-New Gloucester High School. Also participating will be David Pike, a PATHS alumnus and Victoria Stubbs, PATHS music instructor.
