Posted on 06/10/2015

Students and faculty of Deering High School will celebrate the school’s second annual Cultural Heritage Day on Friday, June 12. The event is organized by Seeds of Peace members from Deering and will feature an afternoon of international foods, dancing and games for the entire student body.

The festivities will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the school. Students will play Seeds of Peace camp games, soccer juggling, Chinese hacky-sac, Flag Frenzy and enjoy face painting and henna designs, along with many more fun activities. All Deering students and faculty are encouraged to wear clothing representative of their cultural heritage.

With a grant from Seeds of Peace, the Seeds of Peace Deering members have purchased 34 flags representative of the birth countries of all students at Deering. These will be hung in the hallways of the school after Friday’s event.

Food from local restaurants Babylon and Veranda Thai Cuisine, as well as international samplings of fruits and vegetables, will be available for students and teachers to taste.

Deering will hold a kick-off event the evening before, when students attend a spring-fling dance in the gym, sponsored by radio station, HOT 104.7, on Thursday, June 11.
