District Invites Neighborhood Discussions about Budget
Posted on 01/23/2015

The Portland Public Schools has created an online Neighbor-to-Neighbor Budget Toolkit to encourage public participation in the development of the district’s 2015-2016 school budget.

The toolkit includes a four-minute, introductory video by Portland Superintendent Emmanuel Caulk that explains the budgeting process, a budget time line, frequently asked questions  and charts showing the district’s major revenue sources and major expense categories.  The toolkit also has suggested discussion questions related to the budget and an email address (superintendent@portlandschools.org) for submitting notes from the discussions.

The toolkit may be used by groups of neighbors, parents, co-workers, friends, family members and other community residents as an easy way to participate in the budget process.  Individuals also are welcome to take advantage of this online tool.

“I encourage everyone to participate in creating a budget that reflects our community’s values and priorities for public education,” Caulk said.
