Auction Features Clocks Made by PATHS Students
Posted on 11/01/2014

Painting for a Purpose will hold its annual auction on Thursday, Nov. 13 at DiMillo’s Floating Restaurant, located off Portland’s Commercial Street at 25 Long Wharf.

The auction will run from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Featured in the live auction this year are 40 clocks that were made by the carpentry class at PATHS, the Portland Public Schools’ Portland Arts and Technology High School, in a project called CLOCKS! It’s about Time!

The clocks have been painted by more than 40 local artists.

A silent auction will feature about fifty other wooden items such as candlesticks, stools, tables and pepper mills.

Students from the PATHS woodworking class also have created wooden fish that will be painted by the Portland High School Art Club and sold at the auction.

Tickets are $10 for an individual or $25 for a family.

Painting for a Purpose brings people together to create hand-painted “whimsical” furniture, then hosts an annual auction to sell the items and uses the proceeds to fund youth-led service learning grants for students in the Portland Public Schools.

Students are invited to write grants about how they want to make a difference in the community.

They must identify a community need, conduct research, propose a plan, devise a budget and document their learning as part of the grant writing process.

Over the past four years, Painting for a Purpose has provided more than $13,000 to fund 25 such projects.
