King Middle School will be hosting its 25th annual Celebration of Learning on Thursday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to noon at King Middle School. This event is free and open to the community.

As students at an EL Education Mentor School, King’s sixth-, seventh-, and eighth- graders delve into meaningful and authentic interdisciplinary units, called expeditions, and produce high quality products to demonstrate their understanding.   Teams will be showcasing exciting and compelling work ranging from bats’ role in Maine’s ecosystems, the part that students can play in mitigating climate change, the journey immigrants take to the United States, and the fundamental rights to freedom that all Americans should have.

Students have built functional floating offshore wind turbines and written fictional narratives describing immigrants’ role in the community. They’ve worked with leaders of the civil rights movement and collaborated with Maine Audubon to plant native species around our campus.

Students will be discussing these products at the Celebration Of Learning. The public is welcome to visit King to view these products and to engage with students about their learning.

The Celebration of Learning occurs in conjunction with an El Education two-day national Site Seminar at King. More than 80 educators from across the country will visit the school to learn about King’s innovative, exciting and successful approach to learning.
