The Foundation for Portland Public Schools is pleased to announce that the Verizon Foundation has awarded a grant in the amount of $10,000 to support science curriculum development for grades K-5 in Portland’s public schools.

The Portland Public Schools is undertaking work to assess current elementary science curriculum and programming across grade levels and schools. “The district is grateful to Verizon for supporting the development of robust and relevant science programming for all students,” said Melea Nalli, Assistant Superintendent of Teaching & Learning/Chief Academic Officer.

The Verizon Foundation engages in supporting the communities they serve. Verizon employees are engaged in supporting neighbors and building community capacity, and they give generously of their time, talent and financial resources. Collectively, the positive impact is vast, and Verizon encourages employees’ passion to serve others.

“At Verizon, we understand the importance of providing educators with tools to enable students to strengthen their Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) skills.  We are proud to partner with the Portland Public Schools to help students to reach their full potential through more intensive science exploration in elementary school,” said Stephanie Lee, Verizon Regional Director.
