School Bonds Again Before Council
Posted on 04/20/2017
On Monday, April 24, the City Council will again consider various proposals to send elementary school bond questions out to voters. The council’s special meeting starts at 5 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers. One bond proposal calls for spending $64 million to pay for the renovation of Longfellow, Lyseth, Presumpscot and Reiche schools. A $32 million bond proposal would pay for renovating Lyseth and Presumpscot schools, while the city waits to see if the state will pay for renovating Reiche and Longfellow. A $24 million bond proposal would renovate Lyseth while also addressing short-term needs at seven other schools. Bond measures need to receive seven affirmative votes from the council for passage. It’s possible the council may decide to send more than one question out to voters to let them decide.
