Superintendent Caulk Launches Book Club
Portland Superintendent Emmanuel Caulk is launching a book club in September. The first featured book is “One Size Does Not Fit All” by 17-year-old Nikhil Goyal.
While still in high school, Goyal interviewed hundreds of people about public education, including well-known experts and many students. He calls for changes to make school more engaging, spark students’ creativity and hone their critical thinking skills.
Caulk will lead a discussion about “One Size Does Not Fit All” on September 25 at 7 p.m. at Longfellow Books in downtown Portland. The event is free and no sign-up is required. Copies of the book are available for $19.95 plus tax from Longfellow Books.
The book club is an opportunity to discuss timely and provocative books about public education. Caulk will hold future book club meetings on an occasional basis to discuss books about schools, teaching and related topics that are relevant to the Portland Public Schools. If you have book suggestions, please email him at superintendentportlandschools [dot] org.
