Laboratory tests of the air quality and other environmental conditions at Hall Elementary School in Portland won’t be completed until September 24th or 25th.  As a result, students and teachers will resume classes on Tuesday, September 25th at the former Cathedral School at 14 Locust Street in downtown Portland.

“Cleanup from the September 17th electrical fire at Hall has progressed well.  However, we have not received the final results from environmental tests,” said Portland Superintendent Emmanuel Caulk.  “We are erring on the side of caution in case any additional measures need to be taken.  Our first priority is the safety of our students and staff.”

The district will contact all Hall parents on September 24th to explain the logistics, schedule and options for transportation to Cathedral.  A public forum is being planned for Monday night to answer questions.  Information on the location and time will be provided on Monday morning.

Because Hall School will not hold classes on September 24th, the Portland Recreation Department will offer full-day care at Riverton School and Community Center on Monday for Hall students who are currently registered for its before and after care program.   Parents are responsible for providing their own transportation to Riverton. Please call the city's hotline at 756-8130 for more information.

“This has been a trying time for our students, staff and all of the workers involved in cleaning up from the fire,” said Caulk.  “We appreciate their patience and flexibility as we complete the work.”
