Hall Elementary School has opened all but the three rooms directly affected by the September 17 fire, after air quality tests showed mold levels were well within established guidelines in several rooms and a hall that previously had been sealed off from the rest of the school.

The tests were taken on October 12 by Environmental Safety and Hygiene Associates, an independent environmental consulting firm hired by the Portland Public Schools, and analyzed by a New Jersey laboratory.  See the results.

The hall has been opened and teachers are moving back into six classrooms in the affected area.

The remaining area, which includes classrooms 18 and 20 and the office in room 22c, will be completely rebuilt.  That work is expected to be done by the end of 2012.  The Portland Public Schools will conduct periodic testing of the school to monitor environmental conditions over time.
