CBHS Students Present Forum on Same-Sex Marriage
Casco Bay High School (CBHS) juniors in Susan McCray's and Stephanie Doane's classes will present a televised forum about the same-sex marriage referendum that Maine voters will consider in November. The forum will include leaders of the campaigns on both sides of the issue.
The forum will be presented before an audience of students and it will air live on TV3, Portland’s education station, on October 25 from 11:35 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The forum will be replayed on TV3 in the days leading up to the election and it will be available on demand.
Guests will include Carroll Conley, executive director of the Christian Civic League of Maine and a spokesperson for Protect Marriage Maine, Mary Bonauto, civil rights project director at Gay & Lesbian Advocates & Defenders, and Shenna Bellows, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Maine.
The CBHS students are learning about how various branches of government tackle public policy issues such as same-sex marriage. They will ask questions of the speakers about the history of the issue, the significance of Maine’s referendum and the outlook for the future.
