Auction Raises Money for Student-Led Projects
A live auction featuring lobster boats and dories hand-painted by local artists and students in the Portland Public Schools will take place on November 8 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Grace Restaurant, 15 Chestnut Street, Portland. Erin Ovalle will be the guest auctioneer.
Organized by Painting for a Purpose, the event also will include a silent auction of hand-painted items. Proceeds will be distributed as mini-grants to students in the Portland Public Schools to work on projects that make a difference in the community.
Tickets are $10 for an individual and $25 for a family. They will be sold in advance and at the door. For more information, please contact Jane Ellis at 934-3616 or ellis123maine [dot] rr [dot] com. A preview of the auction items may be found at www.paintingforapurpose.net.
Students may apply for grants of up to $500. Grants are made three times a year. Upcoming deadlines are November 15, February 15, 2013, and April 9, 2013. Applications may be found at the bottom of this page: http://www.paintingforapurpose.net/grant-applications/.
Painting for a Purpose brings people together to create hand painted “whimsical” furniture, hosts an annual auction to sell the furniture and uses the proceeds to fund youth-led service learning grants for students in the Portland Public Schools.
