One of the country’s oldest and most intense cross-town football rivalries will celebrate its centennial on Thanksgiving, November 24 in Portland. Two of the city’s public high schools, Deering and Portland High, will face off at 10:30 a.m. at Fitzpatrick Stadium in the 100th Turkey Day Game.

Lincoln Middle School will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony on November 4 at 10 a.m. for the school’s indoor walking trail. The Creole Choir of Cuba recently joined the choruses of Lincoln Middle School and Portland High School for an in-school workshop. The Creole Choir shared some of their history as descendants of Haitian and Dominican immigrants, and they taught the students songs in Creole and Spanish. The Deering High School Mayoral Forum 2011 now may be seen online on the TV3 part of the Portland Public Schools website. Students in Kirsten Platt’s U.S. history classes at Deering moderated the recent forum and asked questions of the 13 candidates who participated.
