The Gifted and Talented Open House for parents was held on Wednesday, November 13th at the Ocean Ave. Elementary School. The event was well attended and parents had an opportunity to learn about Portland's programs. As Portland moves forward to provide G/T services to students who are talented in the Visual and Performing Arts, we want to share our efforts through Newsletters! Look for Newsletters on the G/T Website. Beginning this year, all students who are identified to receive G/T services will be provided an ILP (Individual Learning Plan) which will be developed and shared with parents. G/T teachers will be contacting grade 4 students very soon to review their child's ILP. As we complete all 4th grade students, students in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 will be completed. Contact your G/T teacher for more information!
We continue to provide professional development for our staff members in the area of Common Core State Standards as we move toward the alignment of IEP Goals with the standards.
We have been hosting parent training sessions for the purposes of educating parents in Transition Planning. The Maine Parent Federation is facilitating these sessions. Our first two sessions were held on November 5th and 12th. Our last session will be held on November 19th at the PATHS facility, Teacher's Room. All parents of students with disabilities are invited to attend. No need to register!
