Deering Clubs and Activities
Deering High School has a vast array of extra-curricular activities. Through our various clubs and teams students form connections within school walls as well as in the wider Portland community. These activities also allow students to develop a variety of interests, relationships and skills.

Academic Decathlon is a team competition wherein students match their intellects with students from other schools. Students are tested in 10 categories: Art, Economics, Essay, Interview, Language and Literature, Mathematics, Music, Science, Social Science and Speech.

Students have the opportunity to volunteer in elementary school classrooms. Most volunteer at Longfellow Elementary due to the location. They have the option to volunteer from 1 to 5 days a week and can choose to volunteer during a study hall or from 2:10-3:00 in the afternoon.
The Deering Environmental Club promotes recycling and environmental advocacy in our school and community.
A club committed to planting and maintaining the raised beds beyond Memorial Stadium.
Rams and Lambs
Rams and Lambs is an after-school mentoring program. High school students commit to spending at least one hour each school week as a friend to a child at an elementary school of their choice in Portland. Become a friend to a child who needs your guidance as a Big Brother or Big Sister.
A club with the mission of supporting education for students in places lacking resources. Through fundraising efforts SWB has supported schooling for 25 students at primary schools in Uganda for the past 5 years.

Deering's "D" Club
A club dedicated to raising school spirit and pride. One of Deering's oldest clubs.Similar to a "Varsity Club" the D Club consists of athletes on varsity sports teams who conduct activities which support the athletic program. The D Club conducts variety shows, and community service activities.
