The Portland Public Schools and Opportunity Alliance are offering free summer meals and fun enrichment activities for kids at sites across the city of Portland this summer, through mid-August. Four Portland Public Schools students won titles recently in the first annual Miss Sensational Pageant. The event is a therapeutic pageant for Maine girls and women of all ages with disabilities. The Portland Public Schools, in association with the United Way’s Starting Strong Program and the Maine Hunger Initiative, will be hosting a picnic at Deering Oaks Park on Wednesday, July 13, to celebrate the free summer meal program for children that is happening across the city of Portland this summer. Youngsters age 18 and younger and their parents are invited to the Summer Success Picnic in the Park, which will feature a free lunch and fun activities that promote learning.
