City Council To Get Elementary School Bond Proposal July 6

On Wednesday, July 6, the Portland Board of Public Education will refer to the City Council the board’s recommendation that the council send a $70.6 million bond proposal to city voters to pay for renovations at Presumpscot, Longfellow, Lyseth, and Reiche elementary schools. On Saturday, June 18, one of the Portland Public Schools’ signature yellow school buses and more than 100 students, staff and other supporters participated in Portland’s annual gay pride parade. Meals and times will be posted at sites and will be distributed prior to the end of school. For the second year in a row, the Portland Public Schools will be an official participant in Portland’s annual gay pride parade. District and school staff, including incoming new Portland Superintendent Xavier Botana, and students, members of the Portland Board of Public Education and other supporters are expected to participate in the 2016 Pride Parade down Congress Street this Saturday, June 18.
