Board Approves Xavier Botana
As Portland’s New Superintendent

The Portland Public Schools has a new superintendent: Xavier Botana.
The Portland Board of Public Education voted May 24 to hire Botana, currently an associate superintendent in Indiana, for a three-year term starting July 1. “We’re very excited to welcome Mr. Botana as our new superintendent of schools,” said School Board Chair Marnie Morrione.

Maine’s largest school system has 10 elementary schools, three middle schools and four high schools serving approximately 7,000 students in pre-kindergarten through grade 12 and more than 4,400 adult learners.
